2016 Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
"This bottling is the pinnacle of what Oakville represents and tastes like each vintage. This is a barrel selection from the finest parcels of our estate vineyards in Oakville, crafted in a classic style to speak to the truest expression of the sites we consider ourselves lucky to farm."
-Peter Heitz, Winemaker.
Bold aromas of dusted blackberries and toasted Bermuda Cedar surrender to tertiary tones of bright cherry compote, transporting your senses to broad brushstrokes of the darkly brooding fruit to come. On the palate, ripe black and red berries pirouette in flashes, building momentum through pixilated tannins to reveal textural finesse and freshness that persists all the way through the dynamic finish.
The fruit for this Oakville Reserve bottling comes entirely from the Fortuna and Leopoldina Vineyards. Located in Eastern Oakville, these sites are situated upon the famous volcanic red soils that the Oakville appellation is known for. The Fortuna Vineyard sits proudly on the alluvial fan at the base of the Oakville bench, and contributing red fruit and spice components. The Leopoldina Vineyard, high on the bedrock ridge above the Fortuna Vineyard, highlights structure, texture, and mid-palate weight.
This bottling is an exemplary ode to the renowned appellation of Oakville, and the very first of our 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon releases. Don't miss your chance to enjoy this extraordinary wine of time and place.
praise for 2016 oakville reserve
"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve is another stellar wine in this range. Aside from being absolutely delicious, the Reserve offers superb quality for the money, especially by Napa Valley standards. Black cherry, chocolate, leather, smoke, spice and menthol are all generous in the glass, with the textural breadth that is such a signature of Eastern Oakville very much on display. This ample, inviting Cabernet will drink well with minimal cellaring."-Antonio Galloni, Vinous. 94 Points.
"Solidly built, with layers of warm cassis, cherry puree and raspberry coulis stretching out over long, fine-grained tannins and juicy acidity. The plushness of the sweet fruit marries wonderfully with the grippy underlay on the lengthy finish. Best from 2022 through 2035. " -James Molesworth, Wine Spectator. 94 Points.
"Outstanding wines. These wines are outstanding for their type and are worth the extra effort to seeking out." -Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com. 94 Points.
