2018 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon
“the 2018 black label so perfectly captures everything we look for when blending this flagship in cellar: incredible flavor, width, focus, and balance that is both interesting and delicious. this is our ‘heart of darkness’ wine, which showcases powerful density of fruit in its youth upon release, and later reveals the bones and incredible structure to age elegantly and gracefully. the holistic balance this wine possesses at such a young age makes this, in my opinion, certainly one of the best black labels in my fourteen years as winemaker at turnbull—which i didn’t think i’d say after the 2017 vintage.” –peter heitz, winemaker
2018 Black Label fires on all cylinders with darkly brooding fruit tones of crème de cassis, sun-ripened black mulberries, and updrafts of violets. Silky tannins flow, enveloping the midpalate lusciously with generous width and focus. Its endless finish sees power all the way through, fulfilling its aromatic promises. A stunning representation of its flagship status as our ‘best of the best’ barrel offering.
praise for 2018 black label
“Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Turnbull Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon is just a little reticent at this youthful stage. With a little swirling and coaxing, it begins to reveal a staggeringly beautiful nose of warm cassis, boysenberries, black raspberries and dark chocolate, with hints of freshly cut red roses, cinnamon stick, cedar chest and pencil lead plus a waft of fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is super intense, featuring tightly wound layers of black fruits, minerals and baking spices, supported by a rock-solid frame of pixelated tannins and electric freshness, finishing long and fantastically fragrant. What a stunner!”
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label is fabulous. Inky, deep and powerful, the Black Label has so much to offer. Crème de cassis, graphite, new leather, cedar, mint, spice and lavender all run through this full-bodied, unctuous Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. The Black Label pushes all the right buttons. It is a tremendous wine in every way. I loved it. The blend is 87% Leopoldina and 13% Fortuna."

"From one site, the Leopoldina Vineyard, atop the Oakville bench, this impressive wine is herbal in sage, pencil and violet. Lengthy and fresh, the tannins are firm, supple and elongated, the whole of the parts in equilibrium with lasting grace."
