2019 Pierra Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L
We farm this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 51, one of the steepest and most rugged growing blocks on our Leopoldina Vineyard, perched high atop the famed Oakville Bench. From first light to the last ray that sets behind the Mayacamas Mountain range to the West, grapes in this block enjoy unrivaled sunshine and a leisurely growing season, allowing perfect ripeness to unfold.
The great challenges to farming this near-vertical (read: dizzying), rocky slope result in the most exquisite reward: a wine—unmatched in quality and flavor— that so gracefully reflects this superior terroir and thumbprint of place.
Our 2019 Pierra is an ethereal wine of incredible depth and purity. As Winemaker Peter Heitz puts it, “I never thought it could be possible to observe a more exquisite wine than the 2013 Pierra….But then the 2019 Pierra came into view.”
Aromatics of exotic flowers and red fruits enthrall the nose with precision and lift. Creamy red cassis envelops the palate with an astounding balance of freshness surrounded by dark power. It's something akin to Heitz's 1970 Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, but fuzed with a modern opulence. An impossible notion until it isn't.
praise for 2019 pierra
"The 2019 Pierra Cabernet Sauvignon is a single puncheon from Leopoldina. Soaring aromatics and plush fruit meld together in a sumptuous Cabernet that dazzles from start to finish. The 2019 marries opulence and finesse in a super-ripe, full-throttle Cabernet that is sure to thrill the estate's fans."

"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Pierra bursts with profound crème de cassis, baked plums and Morello cherries scents, followed by compelling wafts of dried Provence herbs, cedar chest, truffles and black olives, plus a fragrant touch of violets. The medium to full-bodied palate quakes with latent energy, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and savory."
